Good photography is an art form most people greatly appreciate. Many of us cherish old photographs of our relatives and our pets. Technology has allowed many of us of all ages to take pictures with our cell phones. Some find that photography interests them thanks to the always handy cell phone. In the not so old days, if one was interested in photography, it was an expensive hobby and not always encouraged. Not anymore! You can splurge and take photos, photos and more photos with your ubiquitous phone.

Capturing Images of Animals

If you have just watched To the Ends of the Earth documentary then most likely you have become interested in photographing wildlife. Photographer Todd Gustafson shot the images for the film, and he has been photographing wildlife from all over the world for over 20 years. Here are a few tips for taking some great photos of wildlife:

  • Go to the zoo. If you would like to practice taking photographs of wildlife, visit the zoo. Here you can photograph a giraffe, a lion, and a snake. You will gain more confidence in your ability, the more photos you take.
  • Do not use the flash. A flash sends a burst of light which most likely will startle the animal, and you will not get the image you intended. Be sure to make sure your flash is turned off before you begin photographing.
  • Be patient. If you are at a nature center, you will see more animals at dawn and dusk because that is the time of day that animals roam to find food. If you can stay still in one spot that is a little removed from where the animals are, you have a good shot of getting a great photo of the wildlife.
  • Know your subject. Guess what, if you want to photograph wolves or bears, know their habits and how they live. The more you know about your subject, your insight will allow you to take more natural photos.

Photography is a great way to visually capture what interests you and the photos can be used to teach others what you see through your lens. Often pictures convey emotions that viewers recognize as they look at the images. Photography is another way all of us can communicate and share our insights with others.
